New! Wedding Ideas

I wanted my wedding to be perfect. Exactly the way I want it to be. On top of that, I had a tight budget but elaborate plans. I  did not want a wedding package  as I wanted everything to be perfect. From gown to gloves to the bouquet to the musicians. So my fiance and I took it upon ourselves to plan every single detail.

The Schedule

The schedule, being a Oriental wedding with a Church reception, typical in Singapore went like this:

Morning.

Groom picks bride up at her home. Brings bride to his home for the Chinese tea ceremony. Entourage goes to bride's home for the tea ceremony. All have lunch there. Both sets of parents took care of that so that was one load off our minds.

Afternoon.

All go to the Church for the wedding ceremony.

Night

All go to the restaurant for a wedding dinner. That's the biggest event for our parents and relatives.

The Plan

OK, The bride can't do everything herself or she'll go mad. So like my friends, I turned to my pals for help.

Photography

We hired a professional photographer to cover the event and got some friends who are photography enthusiasts to back him up.

As is the norm in Singapore, before the wedding, my fiance and I took photos for the wedding album. For that some were taken by a professional photographer

The fun shots were taken on an outing with 2 great pals. We just dressed up with full makeup on, went around some classic buildings, hotels, romantic spots even hotels and business buildings taking rolls and rolls of photos. We figured, if we take enough photos, we'll have a few good ones to enlarge and compile in a home made wedding album. It worked. And it was loads of fun. I think it turned out better than the ones done in a studio.

The invitations

We went to a printer for the invitation cards. We chose the design and had them print our names on the cards.

If you have a high quality printer, you could print them yourselves. You could take a photo as a couple, edit it with a photo imaging software, use a desktop publishing software to create your wedding cards with the photo on the cover, and print it out. You save lots of money that way.

The gown and all

Ok. We were on a really tight budget. The gowns in wedding packages were priced out of our reach. We'd rather spend the money on our honey moon and new home instead. So we went for sales. We found that it was cheaper to buy a used gown in perfect condition than to rent a gown from the stores or buy a brand new gown from the designer boutiques. It was a nightmare shopping for gowns as I was heavier than the average bride. Most brides are really thin on their wedding day, so most of the gowns I liked were to small for me. Times have changed. I found a place on the web you can get gorgeous high quality wedding gowns at prices that are still affordable.

Don't forget to get the gloves and shoes.  Long Tricot Gloves

Don't forget the Wedding Bands  and your jewelry (hey a bride needs that necklace and earrings to complete the look.)

Church wedding reception

I got a trusted friend to handle the church reception, another very good friend to help with the flowers for the church.

Wedding bouquets

I had a bunch of friends who are fantastic musicians and were willing to help.  Another friend knew of someone who is fabulous with flowers and willing to do the bouquet at a fraction of the market price. Our relatives provided the flower girl and page boy and my pal and his brother were the brides maid and best man.

Don't forget the wedding rings.

An easy way out is order the flowers from the web.

The Dinner

Both sets of parents handled the dinner reception.  We booked a hotel, took the package of dinner and room and let the hotel do the rest. We just took care of our outfits, the photographers and guest list. The bonus is we get to spend the wedding night in a posh hotel suite. With complimentary gifts from the hotel.

The wedding night

Ok, Now is the time for the sexy lingerie.

Tip: if you are going to be in a cold hotel room, be more practical and wear something with more coverage. You definitely would not feel sexy, covered in goose bumps shivering away.
