Traveling with the kids

Where can you go when you have a toddler and a little kids and not much cash?

I went to Bintan Lagoon Resort in Indonesia with my kids. We took a ferry from Singapore to get to Bintan. From there, a bus brought us to the resort.

The ferry was full of families with kids. The journey was quite rocky and my kid got a little sea sick. We were arrived in Bintan within 2 hours.

Bintan is a beautiful island. The beaches are white and the sea is clear. Rainy season is from December to February. It is a great place to bring the kids. We managed to spend 1 day at the beach. The currents where we were were strong. Not a place to swim at this time of the year. For water play, the swimming pools at  the hotel are much safer for the kids and just as enjoyable. The kids had fun in the sand though.

On the way back I dressed both kids in T-Shirts with a soft toy attached to each T-shirt. A drop of chamomile oil on each soft toy helped keep the sea sickness away. Both kids were too tired, fell asleep and were not bothered by the rocky sea.

What to bring to a tropical island resort

In the tropics, we do worry about  malaria from the mosquitoes, so insect repellant is a must. The Bintan Lagoon Resort fogs the premises every week to keep mosquitoes away. At the same time, they provide insect repellant in the rooms and burn mosquito coils outside the hotel rooms. A great effort made to ensure our safety.

Other things to bring which I found useful are lavender oil, chamomile essential oil, Aloe Vera gel and Honey. You can get aloe Vera based products from Llexli.com

A few drops of these essential oils in honey or aloe Vera mixed in water in the bath tub makes a soothing, relaxing bath for you or the kids. If you get  a sun burn, aloe Vera gel would soothe it effectively. Check out The family trip  for more uses of these items.
