spiderman comics

Peter Parker is Spider-man. He is incredibly protective of his secret identity, so if anyone tells him that right to the face, he'd turn as white as a ghost.

Peter Parker was a nerd. Still is a geek, but no longer clumsy or weak. Not after that spider bite anyway. He got incredible powers from that bite and became a costumed superhero. Hiding his identity completely in his spidey costume.

He can walk on walls, swing from building to building, has superhuman strength, speed and agility. He has a spider sense, a premonition sort of thing which warns him of danger ahead of time, giving him time to react.

His powers + his brilliant mind make him practically unbeatable in combat. Still, his style of fighting a bunch of regular thugs is to egg them on, dodge their blows and let them knock one another out, rather them hitting them directly himself. Safer that way as with his strength, a careless blow could kill a thug instantly. Spiderman will never take a life.

His story is a very human one. Powers aside, he experiences practically every problem regular guys face. He is an average joe, with the mind of  a scientist and strength enough to survive a one on one fight with the hulk.

He has girlfriend (or wife depending on which comic series you follow) problems, money problems, a frail aunt with one foot perpetually in the grave, a lunatic for a boss.. and so many problems, he makes our lives look great.

My personal favourite title is The Amazing Spiderman.  It is the classic story, for the older fans. More in line with the Spiderman movies. Here, he is married to Mary Jane. A teacher in his old school. Fighting some of the greatest foes of his life, so powerful that they make Doc Ock look like a harmless kitten.

Another favourite is Ultimate Spiderman.

This series is aimed at the teenagers. Here, Peter Parker is 17. Mutants and anyone with powers are illegal. He is underaged, so he is exempted for now, according to Nick Fury.

There is a love triangle between the Brainy Mary Jane (they turned her into a nerdy, but still beautiful soul mate of Peter Parker) and the rebellious, knife wielding, problematic, street smart tough chick Gwen Stacy, who fascinates Peter Parker and is the complete opposite of the soft, fragile Gwen Stacy in the old spiderman comics.

The green goblin looks terrifying. Like a gigantic demon with incredible strength. All the villians look twice as threatening as the original. You know what? They have a hit. Even grown ups love this new series.
