Seabiscuit

Seabiscuit is a touching movie about a fiery spirited horse, seabiscuit and 3 broken men. The jockey, Red Pollard, played by Tobey Maguire, who is also one of the executive producers of the movie, seabiscuit's owner, Charles Howard, played by Jeff Bridges and  seabiscuit's trainer Tom Smith, played Chris Cooper.

The cast reads like the who's who of the academy awards  while the story is based on a best selling book. From that alone, you can expect a great movie with great performances by today's movie legends.

Tobey Maguire is a natural as Red Pollard. He has great chemistry on screen with all his screen partners. Especially, seabiscuit.

Seriously. Tobey draws the audience in and makes you feel for Red, the talented jockey who was blind in one eye.

Both seabiscuit and Red have a lot in common. Both a fiery, determined and strong willed. The parallel scene where seabiscuit fought off the men who were fighting off its handlers while Red was fighting off some bullies was quite memorable.

The scene where both the injured jockey and the injured horse were reunited was both touching and amusing at the same time.

What was most inspiring about this story was how this beat up horse came into 3 broken lives, the life of the jockey who  was abandoned as a child and led a very tough bitter life, the owner who had lost in son and the trainer whose world was rapidly vanishing. How the 4 of them helped one another heal and overcome life's obstacles.

The movie is about how a dark horse, a horse that is too small to race is given a chance, and proves himself to be a champion.

It tells how a broken jockey, on the brink of suicide finds a new lease of life, winning races, with a father figure in the horse's owner.

It speaks of how a man who had lost his only son finds a new son in the jockey, Red.

On the whole, although this movie starts slow, it ends as a beautiful movie not to be missed, that is, if you like dramas.
