Earning money as an affiliateAffiliate programs work like that. You link to the merchant's site. If the customer buys from that merchant, you get the commission. The commission will usually come in a check, sent to you after you have reached a minimum pay out amount. Many offer commission from as low as 5% to as high as 30% of the sales. Some even record the sales made days after they visited the merchant through your links. How much you earn depends on how many people you send to that merchant (your traffic and click throughs) and usually how much these people buy from that merchant. Very important to your earnings would be the percentage of commissions from each sale you get and how well you sell the products. How well you sell the products also depends on how well you know the product and how good the merchant is at closing the sale. For your own reputation, pick merchants whose products you believe in. It is best if you have tried the products yourself and that you like them. That way, you'll be able to write about the products with passion and send customers to the merchants. Those merchants that track the customer after you have sent them to the merchant's site, do it through cookies. These cookies will identify the customer. If he or she buys from the merchant, days later, the cookies will let the merchant know that this customer was sent by you and you will get the commission. A good affiliate program to start on is at site sell. When you get there, there would be a pop up window asking if you want to join their 5 pillar affiliate program. That program pays well, if they accept you. Site sell sells e-books and tools to help you succeed in earning money from the web. As an affiliate, you get a discount off some of their products. (Which is why I joined in the first place. ) Their e-book Make Your Site Sell was the product I have been eyeing for quite some time already, unfortunately, even affiliates don't get a discount on that. I bought it in the end. It has 4 volumes. MYSS2002, Product, Store and Traffic. I am currently studying MYSS2002. Plenty of valuable information. Every few chapters show me what is wrong with my web site and the impact of my oversight. No regrets. Site sell also has newsletters and a whole lot of online materials which teach you about affiliate marketing. They are that determined to help their affiliates (people like me and you who recommend their products) to succeed. It is a good program to join, even if just for the free training materials.
