7 reasons why your web site is not sellingWhy isn't my web site selling? It is frustrating. All that effort setting up a web site to sell your products. Yet no sales. Lots of visitors go to your site, but your sales are less than they could be. You know it is not your product. Your product sells well out of the web site. The price is ok too. So what is the problem? According to Ken Evoy, author of the e-book, Make Your Site Sell 2002. There is no point in worrying about web traffic or other matters if your site is simply not built to sell. 1. Broken LinksLinks that lead to pages that no longer exist make your site look unprofessional and less credible. These broken links may leave your visitors wondering if there is anyone still taking care of your web site. They may be wondering if you are still in business in the first place. Solution Fix those links. Test your web site to see if there are broken links, and then fix those links. 2. Can't figure out how to buy the productThis is a silly one, but happens with some sites I visited. I wanted to buy the products but couldn't get to the order page. I had a tough time figuring out whether they ship out of U.S. in the first place, so when I read about it in the e-book Make Your Site Sell 2002, I could identify with it. Solution Put the link to your order page on every page of your site. Make it known from start whether you ship outside U.S. At very least, the entrance to the site should have a link to how to order and your shipping rates. Make your site easy to navigate. Customers should be able to find what they want on your web site right away. 3. Your opening line is blahIt is the words that sell. (Learnt that from Ken Evoy in his ebook Make Your Site Sell 2002). You should have an opening line that captures your potential customer's attention. Very much like the headline in the newspapers. Your first paragraph should draw your prospects in by stating what they can gain from your products or services. Solution Write your content in a way to capture and keep your prospects interest, and to lead them to close the sale. To find out more on how to do just that, read the ebook Make Your Words Sell, also by Ken Evoy. 4. Your web site is too ego-centricThe visitor is interested to know how your product or service can benefit him. It is about the customer and not about you. If you start of bragging about how big your company is, how much money you are making, what your company day is like, your visitor may tire of the bragging and hit the back button and move on to your competitor. Solution Write about what benefits your can gain from your product. Write for your customer and not for yourself. 5. Lots of visitors, lots of freebies accepted but no paying buyersChances are you are attracting the wrong crowd. Your marketing strategy is bringing people who only want free stuff and who are not serious about buying. Solution Change your strategy to attract quality leads. Start an affiliate program for example. Read Make Your Site Sell 2002 for more ideas and more details.
6. Customers don't feel comfortable sending their credit card details over the internetWith all the bad rap about hackers or security problems, some people are not comfortable entering their credit card details on your web site to buy your goods. No doubt your server is secure and your encryption code impossible to crack, some people just don't trust the net. Solution Provide alternative methods for the customer to pay up. Make it easy to pay up via fax, phone or mail.
7. Visitors never returnMost people do not buy on the first visit. People are more likely to buy on repeat visits. If visitors do not return, then your potential sales is cut to 15% of what it could be. (Statistics according to the e-book Make Your Site Sell 2002) Solution Give visitors a good reason to return. Maybe new content published regularly, email newsletter or some other incentives. Read Make Your Site Sell 2002 if you want more ideas or details.
