Matrix Revolutions movie review

Matrix revolutions is the last of the Matrix trilogy. It is a sombre movie that concludes the war between humans and the machines.

It helps to have watched Matrix, Matrix revolutions and animatrix to better understand Matrix revolutions.

In Animatrix, you see how the war between humans and machines started.

Here, you see how the war ends. No war ends without sacrifice. Here, you'll see the courage and the sacrifices made to save Zion.

Matrix Reloaded (Matrix 2 movie) ends with Neo in a coma. Matrix revolutions starts with Trinity and Morpheus bringing Neo back. Neo sees the Oracle again and has to make yet another difficult choice.

In Matrix, Morpheus was the captain of a ship. In Matrix reloaded, he lost his ship. In Matrix Revolutions, he became one of a crew in another ship and was mocked for his belief in miracles.

Here, Smith's power has increased. Neo is beginning to show power over machines in the real world.  

You see the relation between Agent Smith and Neo played out more clearly in this movie. That leads to a special effect loaded confrontation between the two which reminds me of the movie Superman II, though, more elegant.

As expected, the special effects and scale of this movie are impressive.

The battle in Zion between humans and machines is a splendid visual feast of special effects. The prolonged battle in Zion was stunning. Humans, clad in with robot-like machines, battled relentless swarms of squid-like machines. Many warriors lost their lives in the process.

Seeing the machine world through Neo's different vision was rather interesting too.

While in the matrix, as seen in Matrix Reloaded, Neo is invincible. In contrast, while out of the matrix, which is most of the time in Matrix Revolutions, Neo is very vulnerable. In Matrix Reloaded, Neo could even bring Trinity back to life. Contrast that to the situation out of the Matrix, in Matrix Revolutions, where Neo is relatively powerless. Ok, so he can stop squid-like machines, but nothing like his power in the Matrix.

At the end of the day, peace is purchased, but with a heavy price.
