Lord of The Rings

If you are looking for information about the various races in Lord of the Rings and the major characters in the story, check out the Lord of the Rings section.

Basically, Lord Of The rings is a fascinating 3 novel saga by Tolkein. About a world where men, elves, dwarves, wizards, elks and hobbits lived.

Already a very popular saga, it was made even more popular when the LOTR movie trilogy was created, based on the book.

It is set in the time when Sauron was on the verge of ruling the world, through terror and torment. His power was terrible. He was depicted as an evil eye in the movie. As his power grew, his darkness spread over the entire world.

Sauron's power was in the ruling ring he created while he still had a physical body. Then, a magical being, he put most of his power into that one ring. He also crafted other magical rings of power to which he gave 9 rings to the kings of men, 3 rings to the elf leaders and 7 rings dwarf leaders, pretending to help them. Instead, his intention was to use these rings, controlled by his ruling ring, to control the men, elves and dwarves.

The elves were smart. The moment Sauron put on his one ring, they sensed something was amiss and took off their rings so as not to be controlled by him.

The kings of men weren't that lucky. They were trapped by Sauron. The rings lengthened the lives of the wearers immensely, but over time, they ended fading away into terrifying ringwraiths who would do Sauron's bidding.

4 hobbits, Frodo, Sam, Merry and Pippin. 2 men, Aragorn and Boromir, 1 elf, Legolas, 1 dwarf Gimli and 1 wizard Gandalf were sent on a mission to destroy that one ring. It had to be brought straight to Sauron's stronghold and thrown into the volcano where it was first created. Once done, Sauron's power would be gone and that would be the end of Sauron.

So begins the first book (and movie). The Lord Of The Rings.

The next movie, or book, The Two Towers is where we witness the battles between good and evil. The original group of 7 has split up. Frodo and Sam continue their journey to destroy the ring, while Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli help their allies fight off the cascading forces of evil, led by the one good now corrupted white wizard, Saruman. Merry and Pippin are captured and have their own adventure with the Elks.

The final book, or movie, Return of the King refers to Aragorn. The rightful heir to the throne of men. An exciting climax to the trilogy.
