make your own t-shirt teddy bearYou can make a teddy bear from an old discarded t-shirt. Rather than using it
as a rag, or throwing it away, you can use it to make a teddy bear or 2 for
yourself, your kids, neices, nephews or a little kid from a family which can't
afford a teddy bear.
Word of warning, before you turn that old t-shirt into a teddy bear, make
sure it is not somebody's favourite t-shirt.
Here's how
- Get a clean old t-shirt that you would normally discard.
- Get a sheet of carbon paper or tracing paper, or anything you could use to
trace the teddy bear pattern onto a t-shirt.
- Draw a picture of a teddybear. Outline the picture by drawing a seam 1cm away from the original picture. This is to allow for the seams required when you sew the teddy bear together.
- Cut out the teddy bear pattern.
- Trace two copies of it onto the t-shirt. One for the front and one for the back.
- Cut the teddy bear pattern from t-shirt.
- Use black wool to sew on the eyes, nose and mouth. Use the pattern for
reference.
- Put the front and back pieces together, with the teddy bear's face facing
inwards.
- Sew the 2 pieces together leaving an opening on top for the stuffing.
- Turn it inside out so the teddy bear's face is facing you.
- Cut strips from the rest of t-shirt to stuff the teddy bear with.
- Stuff the bear with strips of t-shirt.
- Turn the flaps on top of the bear inwards and sew the top of its head
shut.
If you can't draw a teddy bear, you can search for an image on the internet, or better yet, get a book of teddy patterns for a much better looking bear. Check these out.
