We love going on annual holidays. My second kid actually went on holiday with
us, before he was born. I went when I was pregnant with him. We even went to a
chalet quite a distance from the regular transport routes to boot.
Now, that it something I would advise a pregnant mom against. When you are
pregnant, that is the time to pamper yourself, and to splurge on a nice hotel
near the bus.
My husband had to carry all the luggage for the entire family while I held my
older child's hand and hobbled along to the chalet. On hindsight, it was fun,
though from that holiday on, we went for hotels instead.
My older child was still a toddler then. Still wearing diapers. Still
drinking milk from the bottle, so we had to lug along milk bottles, a can of
milk powder, sterilizing tablets, diapers as well as clothes, toiletries,
mineral water and regular travel stuff. Oh yeah, we brought along cans of food
and stuff we could eat for breakfast to save money. Good thing my man is very
strong. Even then, all that luggage is no joke.
Holiday with 2 toddlers.
Our next holiday was when when the younger one was barely 13 months old. He
could walk but not talk yet. Now both kids were still in diapers and drinking
milk from the bottles so we had to bring along enough diapers for 2, milk powder
for the older one. The younger one was still breastfeeding.
Breastfeeding is wonderful for traveling moms. It means much less to carry.
Still, I needed to bring the bottles, sterilizing tablets, container and milk
powder for the older one.
This time around, we booked a hotel through the internet, way in advance.
Transport was convenient. Everything was planned with ease of movement as a
family.
Ideally, you should rent a car when you go on a family holiday. It makes
moving around as a family so much easier.
The hotel provided for our breakfasts. So that was really convenient. Just
make sure everyone gets to the buffet table before breakfast is over and we
could all eat to our hearts content. Then it was a family walk to the various
attractions.
The hotels we stayed in all had restaurants. Room service too. That meant, if
the kids slept we could order food to be brought up to our rooms. If we could
all get out of the room in time for lunch or dinner, then we could check out the
various restaurants in the hotel.
We chose a resort, so all the attractions were within the huge compound.
There was enough to keep us all occupied.
It was a short but enjoyable trip. With a 1 year old and a 3 year old, you
can't be too adventurous. A 4 day holiday was just about right.
