When I got pregnant, we were incredibly happy, but frightened. Pregnancy
costs are very high. Medical cost is very frightening.
Any complications in a pregnancy leads to expensive medical tests and
treatments.
Don't forget about those monthly check ups. Weekly in some cases.
Then there is the delivery cost.
The shipping cost of your baby ;-)
A normal labour, with pain killers and hospitalization after that costs
thousands.
If you go for an epidural, how much more would that be.
A caesarean if complications arise?
My friend, a mother of 3 told me to set aside $10,000 for the medical cost of
every pregnancy.
I was lucky. First baby, no pain killers except the gas mask (which the staff
insisted I should use at least.) Saved money, but, boy, was it painful. Now,
that's my definition of ultimate pain. A long 12 hour labour in pain made it
even tougher. For the second one, I relented and had 1 jab. Just the pethidine.
Each pregnancy left us huge bills to pay. If not for a relatively high paying
job, we'd have been left with a huge debt.
Talking about horrendous medical bills, you should consider getting medical insurance. You never know when you may need that.
