Natural ways to cope with rheumatoid arthritis

In rheumatoid arthritis, your immune system attacks your own body.

The sensible approach is to follow your doctor's advice and take whatever is prescribed to you. There are many drugs that he could prescribe for you to manage the disease.

Food allergies

Wheat, corn, milk, beef, tomato, egg plant, potato, peppers and tobacco are common food allergens that could aggravate your rheumatoid arthritis.

Identify the foods you are allergic to. Keep a food diary. Each day, take note of what you eat and how you feel for the next 24 hours. If eating a particular food makes you feel worse, consider eliminating that food from your diet.

What you can do

Check with your doctor if you need supplements of hydrochloric acid or pancreatic enzymes or proteases in for your digestion.
Take flaxseed oil or canola oil for linolenic acid.
Take arthritis supplements for your joints
Eat more brightly coloured or deeply coloured fruit and vegetables for their flavanoid content. Cherries and blue berries are good for arthritis.
Take a good multi vitamin supplement for vitamins C,E and B5 and the minerals zinc, selenium and iron.
Eat more nuts, whole grains, dried fruit and green leafy vegetables.
Eat pineapples for the bromelain
Take ginger for some relief
Other useful herbs include boswellia serrata, feverfew and yucca.
Finally, get some light exercise.
