Managing Arthritis
Arthritis is basically problems with the joints.
 | Arthritis could be rheumatoid arthritis, which is about inflamed joints. |
 | Arthritis could be osteoarthritis, due to worn cartilage. |
 | Osteoporosis or brittle bones is due to the loss of calcium in the bones.
The bones are brittle and break easily. |
 | Fibromyalgia is identified by body aches, abnormal sleep leading to
morning stiffness and fatigue and tenderness in many of 11 specific places. |
 | Bursitis is the inflammation of the sac of tissue containing lubricating
fluid, to ease the movement of muscle. |
 | Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is due to injury to the median nerve in a fibrous
tissue going across the front of the wrist. It happens due to repetitive
movements of the wrist, or inflammation leading to swelling of the carpal
tunnel. |
Tips on what to do
 | Identify the source of difficulty. Take note of what you do each
day, and which activities cause pain. How long were you at that activity
when it caused pain? |
 | Think of ideas how to solve that problem. |
 | When carrying heavy loads, spread the weight of the load. For example, use
whole body strength instead of arms to carry such loads. |
 | Stand up straight. |
 | Sit in a chair that has a firm seat and a fairly straight back. |
 | When lifting heavy things, don't bend your back. Bend your knees to squat
and pick up the objects instead. |
 | Use light objects, like plastic dishes instead of stone ware, nylon
handbag against leather bags. |
 | Wear shoes with low heels. |
