Handling Osteoarthritis Naturally

Osteoarthritis is associated with inherited abnormalities of the joint or cartilage. It could also be due to past injuries.

Free radicals

Free radicals, a by product of metabolism, from pollution, pesticides or even sunlight can destroy our cells. Free radicals age us. Free radicals also worsen osteoarthritis. Antioxidants neutralise free radicals, making them harmless. Fruit and vegetables are rich in antioxidants, so it makes sense eating more fruit and vegetables if you have osteoarthritis.

Nightshade family

Normal Childer, PhD found that by eliminating tomatoes, potatos, egg plants, peppers and tobaccos and other such vegetables that contain alkaloids, he cured his own osteoarthritis. It might be worth a try.

Nutritional supplements

Glucosamine sulfate appears to be the best natural remedy for arthritis. Glucosamine sulfate has, in some studies produced better results than NSAIDs (first line drugs against arthritis). Glucosamine sulfate takes a while to produce results. Glucosamine stimulates the manufacture of cartilage compounds in the joints. It is responsible for producing what is needed to repait the joints.

Shark Cartilage contains chondrotin sulfate, which is made up of many glucosamine sulfate molecules. That means, a chondrotin sulfate molecule is very much larger than a glucosamine sulfate molecule. 200 times larger. This means that your body absorbs and uses glucosamine far more readily than shark cartilage. Glucosamine is far more effective than shark cartilage.

Vitamins C and E

Vitamins C and E are antioxidants. Both protect against the damage caused by free radicals.

Other vitamins and minerals

Vitamins A,C,E,B3,B5,B6, zinc, copper and boron are needed to maintain and repair the joint cartilage.

Phytoestrogens

Estrogen may be a factor that promotes osteoarthritis. Phytoestrogens block the negative effects of estrogen on,  arthritis. Herbs that contain phytoestrogens include fennel and parsley. Food rich in phytoestrogens include soy, apples, nuts, celery and whole grains.

Herbs

Boswellia and Devil's Claw are herbs used to treat arthritis

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy really helps. See a physiotherapist for advice. Swimming is great exercise for those with osteoarthritis.

Most importantly, see a doctor for help.
