Aromatherapy and Arthritis

Arthtritis is defined as the inflammation of the joints.

In gout, uric acid is deposited in crystal between joint spaces.  In rheumatoid arthritis, the sufferer develops an allergic reaction to his own body. In osteoarthritis, the wear and tear causes degeneration of the joints.

Aromatherapy can help  in 3 ways.

  1. To detoxify the body
  2. For pain relief
  3. To  boost circulation

To detoxify the body

Essential oils like cypress, lemon and Juniper work to detoxify the body. A word of warning though: Juniper should not be used on a person who has kidney disease.

Through detoxification, you help prevent uric acid from accumulating in the joints.

Pain Relief

Essential oils like lavender, chamomile and rosemary can help reduce the pain. Lavender relieves sharp pain. Chamomile relieves dull pain. Both lavender and chamomile are anti-inflammatory oils. Lavender and chamomile reduce the inflammation in the joints.

Boost circulation

By boosting circulation,  you  drain the waste matter and bring more nourishment to the joints, aiding in their repair.

Ginger and marjoram essential oils help boost circulation.

The oils may be used in a bath or massage.
