Acne Rosacea

Acne is common among teenagers, but when you get it in your thirties, if might be Acne Rosacea instead.

What is Acne Rosacea

Acne Rosacea is the chronic inflammation and congestion of your oil glands and of the skin between these oil glands. Your cheeks and nose appear red and flushed.  Acne Rosacea looks like bad acne. That is why it is called Acne Rosacea.

In Acne Rosacea, skin looks flushed. Cheeks looks flushed. In severe cases, nose looks red.

Acne Rosacea tends to be more common among fair skin people who blush or flush easily.

What causes acne rosacea

Acne Rosacea appears to get worse when you drink too much alcohol or take food that is too spicy. It also may be aggravated by exposure to extreme temperatures, too much sun or stress.

A type of mite called demodex may be the cause of Acne Rosacea.

What to do

As in normal acne, do not pick or squeeze the pimples. You'll only make things worse.

Untreated Acne Rosacea can lead to chronic inflammation and enlargement of the oil glands.

If you think you have Acne Rosacea, see a dermatologist at once. A dermatologist would be in the best position to help you bring your condition under control.

Rosacea is a very common skin condition with prevalence for persons of fair skin type, Celtic or Northern European heredity. However, the condition can be found in dark skinned patients as well.
Rosacea is a disease of the central aspect of the face, localized to the nose, forehead, cheeks, chin and glabella (the area between the eyebrows). A bright red central face, capillary prominence and Acneiform eruptions mark full-blown Rosacea.
There is no known cause for Rosacea, although there seems to be a problem with abnormal blood vessel dilation and constriction in the arteries of the face.
The condition peaks between ages 40 to 50. Women are affected more often than men in a 3:1 ratio.
One thing common to all cases of Rosacea is that solar irradiation makes it flare and worsens its clinical course and prognosis. Other environmental factors such as heat, humidity, cold, and dryness have been cited as possible irritating factors as well.
