Does your computer freeze up frequently?

Don't you hate it when you are happily surfing the net and your computer freezes up.

To make matters worse, after some time, your computer starts to spout ads all over the place.

I've had that happen, with offensive ads popping up all over my PC. The same PC I use with my kids.

These are actually ad serving programs that download themselves into your pc while you are surfing the web. Then, they launch themselves, taking up your computer's resources while they serve up ads.

There is a free software that can be used to clean your pc. It is called ad-aware, from Lavasoft. I use that to clean my pc regularly. That usually gets my PC behaving normally again. Click here to download it.

I downloaded that free copy of ad-aware 6.0, installed it and have been using it each time my PC starts to freeze up and surfing the web becomes extremely slow. I did the same for another PC which sometimes could not even connect to the web. Usually, running the ad-aware program would do the trick.

To run, just click on the ad-aware icon, and click start, then keep hitting next, accepting all the defaults until you get to hit finish.

That does the trick for my PC and my husband's PC.

Prevent ad serving programs from getting into your pc

It came to the point that we had to run ad-aware everyday.

Everyday, some ad serving program would sneak into our pcs through the browsers.

There is a way to stop that nonsense though.

Firefox

If you are using Firefox to surf the web, open your firefox browser, on the top bar, click on tools, click on options, on the left, click on  advanced. On the right, uncheck the box Allow web sites to install software.

That should take care of those sites that dump ad serving programs into your pc without your permission.

Microsoft IE explorer

If you use Microsoft's internet explorer  to surf the web, then open your internet explorer browser. Click on tools, internet options, click on the advanced tab, scroll down until you see the browsing heading. Under that heading, you'll see check boxes for

enable install on demand (Internet Explorer)

and

enable install on demand (Other)

Uncheck both boxes.

That should do the trick.
