Control the calories

To lose weight, you need to control your calorie intake, exercise and stay motivated to keep at it.

I've been with ediets for almost 2 weeks. Lost a miserable 1 pound. It appears that the goal is to have slow and steady weight loss so that you can sustain the weight loss.

I'll be frank. I did not follow the diet plan to the tee. I drifted off and snacked on chocolates. My weakness.

Did you know that the most innocent foods also contain calories. It is all in portion size. Milk has calories. Even low fat foods have calories. Over indulge in anything, even the low fat varieties or healthy foods and you still cannot lose that excess weight.

Calorie Allowance

Think of the amount of calories you are to consume as your daily allowance.

When our parents gave as an allowance, we'd have to check our wallets before we buy anything. If we want to splurge, we save our allowance to do that. If our wallet is empty, that's it. No more purchases.

So, before we buy anything, we look at the price.

Likewise, before you eat anything, look at the packaging.

• How many calories does a serving contain?
• By the way, how many servings does that package contain?

Say you bought this healthy frozen dinner, look at the number of servings in that package. If it is meant for 2 servings, and you eat it all up at one sitting, you are what is meant for 2 people. That is more calories than your allowance for that meal.
