Lost in Translation movie review.

The movie, Lost in Translation, starring Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson. It won the oscar for the best original screenplay in the 76th Academy Awards.

The story is about a movie star, Bob (Bill Murray) who is undergoing mid life crisis.

He is in Japan, promoting a beer. Perpetually bored and sullen in a country where he does not understand the spoken language. His translator doesn't help much as she has a tendency to summarize what is said, probably leaving out important details. Check out the sequence where the director tries to direct him in Japanese.

Charlotte is a young woman who had just graduated from Yale. Married for 2 years. She feels totally disillusioned with her marriage. Bored, she eventually finds solace with Bob.

Bob's married for 25 years, with kids and a wife back home, waiting for him while he does his assignment.

In spite of their age gap, and the fact that they were both married, romance blooms between Bob and Charlotte. Nothing physical though, but romance through tender companionship blossoms between them. It looked a little odd though as she is young enough to be his daughter.

The beauty of this movie is in its wit, subtleness, and the way the actors portray their characters.
