Both my kids had jaundice when they were a few days old. I continued to breastfeed them totally. I was told that breast feeding increases the duration of the jaundice as breastmilk does contain some substance that inhibits the breakdown of the S.B. Any way, the doctor told me not to be alarmed, my babies were healthy, but yellow. The jaundice gradually disappeared by the time they were 3 months old.
Some mothers rather not totally breast feed their babies in such situations though. They say that alternating formula milk with breast milk helps the baby overcome jaundice more quickly. Even the nurses in the hospital advised me to give my kids formula milk for some of the feeds.
