Lazy Girl's DIY beauty newsletterIf you love home made lotions and home made skin care, you would be aware of how much time and effort traditional recipes require. For example, to make a traditional cold cream, you need to sterilize everything, heat up both the water part and the oil part of the cream together in separate containers within a saucepan water, patiently stir the water into the oil 1 drop at a time... And at the end of it, you have to freeze them into single use portions and then thaw out each portion half an hour before you use it. Another way is to keep a bottle of avocado oil and some hydrosols in your bathroom to make your lotions as and when you want them. The most easily available hydrosol is rose water. That is wonderful for normal skin, sensitive skin, dry skin or mature skin. Lavender water is ideal for acne, oily skin and combination skin. Now to make a lotion, you need an emulsifier. Something that can hold the oil in the water. Lecithin is my favourite. The hard way is to add lecithin granules to the oil portion and let it melt as the oil portions and water portions are heated in the saucepan. The easy way is to choose an oil that is rich in lecithin. Avocado oil contains enough lecithin for a simple lotion. For this, just get rosewater or lavender water for the water portion and use avocado oil for the oil portion and emulsifier. Now get a small clean empty bottle (with a cover) just big enough to contain enough lotion for your face and body for a one time use. Fill less than half of it with avocado oil and top up the rest of the bottle with some empty space at the top with rose water or lavender water. Shake well and you have a lotion for immediate use on your face and body. Alternatively, you can just wash your hands with soap and water, dry them, pour a small amount of avocado oil in the center of your palm. Spritz a little lavender water or rose water on it. Rub both hands together and you have an instant lotion. If all that is to troublesome for you, get your beauty treats ready made, based on organic hydrosols. |
