Cleansers Tried and TestedI have sensitive, mature, stressed out skin that is prone to acne. Most products I try are either too rich for my skin, resulting in pimples, or too harsh, resulting in fine lines. I've tried all sorts of products, from commercial products to natural cleansers made in the kitchen. Stendhal Aqua Purete Active Cleansing mousse. This is one of the best I've tried so far on my oily, sensitive skin. Stendhal aqua purete active cleansing mousse is very creamy and foams lightly with water. It is meant for all skin types. It is great for oily skin. While most cleansers for oily skin contain alcohol to zap the oil, Stendhal aqua purete active cleansing mousse uses kaolin instead. As the cleansing mousse is alcohol free, it works well for sensitive skin. Yes, it does purify the skin and does remove the excess oil. The cleansing mousse also rinses off easily. Tip: For sensitive skin, splash water on face and neck before applying the cleansing mousse. Rinse off thoroughly with lots of water. Verdict: I really like this one. It is kind to my skin and effective against the oil. Immediately after cleansing, I thought my skin was still oily. After patting dry my face with a towel, my skin felt soft and balanced. Not oily, not dry or tight. Just right. Other favourites:
PhisohexThis contains triclosan and other ingredients not listed on the bottle. I purchase this from pharmacies and always have a bottle of it in the bathroom. I used this throughout my twenties, to prevent my skin from breaking out. My aunt advised me not to use it too much as she too used it when she was young, but it was so harsh, it caused fine lines to develop. Well, now its my turn. When I use it, my skin tends to develop fine lines too. It is too harsh to use regularly on mature skin. I still keep it for emergencies. The triclosan in it acts very quickly against boils and pimples. NOTE: It worked ok for years. Just recently, I developed an allergy to it. My skin became red, dry and scaly after using it. Our skin changes as we age. Mine now can no longer tolerate Phisohex. It was really good in my teens, but now, in my early thirties, it is way too harsh for my face. Loreal Plenitude White Perfect facial foamThis contains water, mysristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, potassium hydroxyde, disodium oleamido PEG-2 sulfosuccinate, lauric acid, PEG-7 glyceryl cocoate, glycerin, BHT, mulberry root extract, ceteareth-60 myristyl glycol, dmdm hydantoin, disodium edta, propylparaben, scutellaria baicalensis extract, butylparaben, butylene glycol and fragrance. This one was ok initially, but after a few weeks, I started getting pimples again. Too mild for pimple prone skin, but ok for most skins. I tried this as this does not contain sodium laureth sulphate either. Milk and honey home made cleanser. This is my favourite. When I can spare the time, I use this. Check out Milk for your face for the recipe. The catch is you have to sterilise the clean dry containers before you can fill them with the milk or lavender honey mixture. It has to be completely rinsed off or bacteria may breed in the milk residue, causing pimples or boils (If that happens, I remedy it with either phisohex, or eryderm, an antibiotic lotion that is alcohol based and contains 2% erythromycin).
