I started making my own products more than 2 years ago. That
was when I developed an allergy to anything purchased from the drug store. I'm
ok now, but I'm still very cautious as to what I put on my skin.
After many experiments in the kitchen, I came up with these
recipes. Some are modified from books to suit my skin, or to match what is
available when I need it. Some were from many experiments using ingredients
known to be good for the skin.
The basic rules for homemade beauty care

Keep the recipes simple. Anything too complex might lead
to the ingredients interacting with one another. The final result might be
unpleasant side effects. |

Sterilise and dry all equipment and containers |

Freeze the formulas in quantities you would use each day
Only thaw out what you need when you need it. |

If anything smells bad, or if the smell changes, discard
it. |

Always do a patch test before using any
homemade beauty
recipes. |

Basic Ingredient
Most of the ingredients can be found in supermarkets or drug
stores.

Aloe Vera can be used directly
from the leaf of the plant. The yellow liquid right below the surface of the
leaf may cause irritation, so test first. I usually pour almost boiling
water over the leaf before extracting the pulp. It seems to neutralise the
irritating effect. |

calendula is my favourite herb
for skin care as it heals the skin. |
| Elderflower for beauty
for fair clear complexions. |

Honey soothing,
cleansing and moisturizing |
|
milk for moisture |
|
Peppermint
oil adds flavour to lip balms and gives a cool effect |
|
lavender oil
works very well on my skin |
|
CarrierOils
are needed for moisturisers and balms |
|
Beeswax is used to hold creams together |
|
Lecithin is used to hold the lighter lotions together as
well as to nourish the skin. |
| Rice flour for scrub masks |
| 
Kaolin , green clay powder or red clay powder for
mud masks. Or for something really effective, Purifying Mud Mask
from the dead sea, used as it is. |
Moisturisers
The creams are heavier and the lotions are lighter. Neither
are suitable for use on an oily acne prone face. Both are excellent on dry skin.
Especially on the body.
