To Botox Or NotWould you have one of the most poisonous natural poisons injected into your face regularly in the name of beauty?

For decades, many men and women fork out from $350 upwards for a procedure where a doctor injects a toxin into the patient"s face to paralyze the facial muscles. That poison is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. German physician, Justinus Kerner called this sausage poison because it leads to poisoning from consumption of badly handled meats, like unhygienically made or handled sausages. This toxin blocks neuromuscular transmission which leads to paralysis of the affected area. This the toxin that is diluted and used in botox injections.
The reason people flock to surgeons for botox injections is because these jabs are a very effective way to literally erase certain wrinkles and give your face an unlined look. Botox works on frown lines, crows feet and expression lines because the toxin paralyzes those muscle which cause those lines. If you are unable to frown, how are those frown lines going to appear? As a result, botox injections give the patient a younger looking face.
Wrinkles are creases in the skin. These lines can be due to overactive facial muscles, or through skin creasing from the loss of elastin and collagen with age. Botox works on the first type of wrinkles but has no effect on the fine wrinkles that appear because your skin has lost its elasticity.
The doctor would inject botox into the muscles that cause the expression lines, temporarily paralyzing these muscles. As a result, the muscles that cause the expressions are no longer able to crease the skin. Hence, you get that smooth, line-free look associated with botox.
All that works if the correct dosage of botox is injected into the correct spots. Things can go horribly wrong in the hands of an untrained practitioner or a rogue doctor. There was a story in The Guardian about patients developing severe fatique and neurological problems after receiving botox injections from rogue operators in Britain. These patients had to be put on ventilators and were hospitalized for at least 40 days each. Apparently, the private clinic bought pure botulinum A neurotoxin and used that for botox injections. Pure botulinum A neurotoxin is lethal if injected into the bloodstream.
Even if the dosage is right, injected into the wrong muscles, botox can disfigure a patient for as long as that treatment lasts, which is typically 4 to 6 months.
The patients, who received between four and six injections into muscles around the eyes, forehead and nose, quickly developed severe fatigue and neurological problems and had to be put on ventilators to support their breathing. Each was given an antidote and spent a minimum of 40 days in hospital.
There was another case, reported in cbs news about a couple in Florida hospitalized for botulism poisoning after going to a hospital for their Botox injections.
Is there something you can use as a safer alternative to Botox?
