Natural Home Remedies
SUNBURNS
For bad burns with blisters, please see a doctor.
ALOE VERA
Apply some pure aloe vera gel (either purchased from a store or fresh from the leaf)
over the sunburnt area. If using fresh from the leaf, avoid the yellow liquid (aloin) as it is
known to cause irritation.
Alternatively, you could purchase aloe vera gel or products with a decent amount of aloe vera
LAVENDER
Dilute 3 drops of lavender oil in 1 teaspoon of cold pressed vegetable oil and apply on
sunburnt area.
GERMAN CHAMOMILE
Pure German chamomile essential oil is supposed to be even more effective than
lavender against burns. Apply undiluted on the skin. It has to be pure German
chamomile oil as impurities in chamomile oil have been known to cause dermatitis in
some individuals. Make sure you get the oil from a supplier that provides oils to
aroma therapists.

Prevention is better than cure

  1. Use a sun block of SPF 15 whenever you are out in the sun. There are 2 types of sun blocks, the physical sun blocks and the chemical ones. Physical sun blocks are those that include titanium dioxide or zinc oxide to physically block out the sun's rays. These are the less irritating than the chemical sort that rely on PABA or other chemicals to shield your skin from the sun. Check out this merchant:
  2. Sesame oilicon is a natural oil from sesame seeds and has an SPF 4. Check out CarrierOils
  3. Avoid the sun from 10am to 3pm. The sun's rays are the harshest then.
  4. Carry an umbrella or wear a hat when you must go out in the sun.
