Sore Throat
What do you do when your throat hurts so bad you can't sleep?
Take a pain killer like paracetamol. See the doctor first thing in the
morning. Drink as much water as you can take. Or try these sore
throat tablets.
What else?
Watermelon really soothes the painful sore throat.
I learnt this from my kid when he had a sore throat. He kept asking for
barley water. He hardly ate that day, but he would eat the soft cooked barley
grains.
When my throat hurt so bad I could not eat, I tried that too. Barley water
did soothe my throat. Soft, cooked barley grains went down really well and left
me feeling a little better.
To cook,
- Pour a handful of barley grains into a medium sized to large sized
pot.
- Half fill it with water and bring to boil.
- Let the water boil until the grains are soft.
- Add yellow rock sugar to taste.
- Drink the water and eat the grains throughout the day.
Another drink I found helpful was aloe vera drink. I bought a huge aloe vera
leaf, cooked it in water and drank the water and ate the pulp throughout the
day. It helped stave of hunger. I could hardly eat much else because of the
pain.
To prepare the drink
- Take a large aloe vera leaf
- Peel off the green rind
- Chop the pulp into bite size pieces
- Put into the pot
- Half fill the pot with water
- Bring the water to boil
- Let it boil 5 more minutes
- Sweeten with rock sugar to taste
- Eat the pulp and drink the water throughout the day.
The fastest and most convenient sore throat relief
would be to suck sore
throat lozenges.
