Where honey comes from

Honey comes from the honey bee. The honey bee goes from flower to flower collecting a single drop of nectar from each flower. It keeps the nectar in its honey sac its honey sac is full. In the sac, the nectar is processed by the bees body, the first step in its transformation into honey.

Then the bee brings it back to the bee hive. She then passes the nectar to another worker bee who stores it in her honey sac, and then transfers the nectar from cell to cell to allow the moisture in it to evaporate and nectar to thicken. A group of bees will fan the honey with their wings to hasten the process.

When the honey is sufficiently thick, it is sealed with wax where it can keep for a very long time.

Nutritious honey

Raw, unfiltered honey contains vitamin A, all the B vitamins, vitamins C, D, E, various minerals and trace elements, enzymes, hormones and antibiotic factors.

Honey  is definitely a healthier sweetener than white sugar. Kids love honey water too. It is soothing when you have a sore throat.

Word of Caution though : Honey should NOT be given to infants below 1 year old. It is said to be linked to cot deaths. I'm not sure how true that is but better be safe than sorry.
