Why Breastfeed?

When you give birth to a baby, your breasts produce milk which your newborn baby would really appreciate.

In the first few days, your breast milk contains mainly colostrum. This is little in quantity but packed with nutrients and antibodies that will protect your newborn baby from infections. The constituents of your milk changes subtly in response to your baby's particular needs. Nutritionally, breast milk is far more suitable for your baby than cow's milk, which is the base of most formula milk in the market. Cow's milk is perfect for cows.

Also, when you hold your baby when he suckles, you foster a closeness with him. You bond with your baby. Your baby gazes at you from a distance his little eyes can focus best on. It is an experience that only a mother can have.

There is also the convenience when you bring your baby out with you in the early months. You need not worry about bringing hot water, sterilised bottles and powdered milk every time you go out with your little baby. Every time he is hungry, you just need to go with him to a private area and let him suckle.

Also, from observation, breastfed babies tend to be stronger than their bottle fed counterparts. As technology allows the identification of more of the constituents in breast milk manufacturers can put the identified nutrients in their formulas. But even if all the components of breast milk can be identified, formula milk cannot mimic the subtle changes in breast milk that suits each baby according to his needs.
