Rose

Tip: Rose Otto is superior to other forms of rose essential oil. For skin care, I prefer Rose, Otto Essential Oil 1/8 oz: K

Rose Absolute is cheaper than rose otto. The fragrance is not as beautiful to a seasoned nose. It is a good cheaper alternative if you want to use rose oil in your beauty care, but can't afford the high price of rose otto. Rose Absolute Oil 1/8 oz: K

This is my all time favourite oil. The fragrance is so beautiful and soothing. A little goes a long way. Its fragrance lasts longer than most other fragrances in a blend. It is a great oil for skin care. A lovely oil for women. A dilution of 1 drop of rose oil in 1 tablespoon of a cold pressed vegetable oil goes a long way.

3 main types of roses are used in aromatherapy. They are the French rose, the Provence rose which originated from Persia and the Damask rose originally from Syria or (Bulgarian Rose, Turkish Rose, Rose Otto). The French rose is reputed to have stronger aphrodisiac qualities.

Pure rose oil is very costly. In the region of S$130 upwards for 5ml of rose Otto. Huge amounts of rose petals are required to extract tiny amounts of essential oil. That is why it is so very expensive. commercially, it is often obtained as a by product in the production of rosewater.

Its demand in the perfume industry exceeds its supply. As such, it is often adulterated with geranium oil which palmers which are very much cheaper and resemble it to some extent. Synthetic rose oil is also sold in the market. These synthetic oils should never be used in aromatherapy.

Main Composition

Mainly citronellol, which is a terpene alcohol and 50% paraffin wax. It contains so many components, some of which are not yet identified. Its fragrance cannot be fully reproduced by putting the components together yet. It is a nerve tonic.

Uses of rose oil

It is a woman's oil. It is often used to help a woman overcome problems with the female reproduction system. It is said to tone the womb. In men, it appears to increase the production of semen.
A word of warning though. Rose oil should not be used in pregnant women in the first 5 months of pregnancy. It should not be used in pregnant women at all if they have any risk of miscarriage. Rose oil may cause miscarriage in pregnant women.

Rose oil has anti-depressant qualities. It may be used as a massage oil to relax a person, to relieve stress and to help overcome depression. To use for body massage, a dilution of 1 drop of rose oil to 1 teaspoon of a cold pressed vegetable oil is sufficient.

It is a good oil for skin care. It may be used for all skin types, but is especially beneficial for mature skin. To make your own facial massage oil, add 1 drop of rose oil to 1 tablespoon of cold pressed safflower oil and pour into a small glass bottle. Use as required for a luxurious facial massage. Keep the bottle away from light as light causes essential oils to deteriorate. Note: before using the oil, do a patch test. Apply a little of the oil on the inside of your wrist. If the skin does not react to the oil, then you may try a little on your face. Be very careful when using essential oils on your face as some skins react badly to essential oils. If in doubt, never use an oil on your face. Also, if you have acne prone skin, then it is better to use the rose oil in a facial steam instead of as a massage oil.

For facial steaming, fill a porcelain bowl with very hot water. Add 1 drop of rose essential oil to it. Place your face about 10 to 20 cm away from a bowl. Use a towel to form a tent over your head and the bowl, to keep the steam in as a facial sauna. DO NOT TRY THIS IF YOU HAVE ASTHMA. THE STEAM MAY TRIGGER AN ASTHMA ATTACK.

Another way you could use rose oil in skin care is to add a drop of the essential oil to 1 tablespoon of an unscented face cream suitable for your skin. Mix well and keep in a clean, dry and sterile container, to use as needed.

Rose, Otto Essential Oil 1/8 oz: K

Rose, Otto Essential Oil 1/8 oz: K

Rose oil is one of the oldest and best known of all the essential oils. The fragrance of rose is associated with love. It is warm, intense, immensely rich and rosy. It is used in perfumes to lend beauty and depth. A drop or two in a massage, facial or bath oil is luxurious and soothing. The oil is used in skin creams, powders and lotions. Aromatherapy benefits: romantic, supportive, gently uplifting. Essential, absolute and resin oils are volatile, fragrant materials extracted from the root, bark, wood, seed, fruit, leaf or flower of a single plant. The plants used to produce these oils are grown on certified organic fields and are third-party certified by Quality Assurance International; no synthetic chemicals are used in growing or processing them. Steam distillation and cold pressing are used to extract the essential oil from the plant. Essential oils and absolutes are very potent and should always be used sparingly and in conjunction with a reliable reference. Essential oils contain the odor, taste and medicinal properties of the plant itself, but in very concentrated form, with no base oil, alcohol, water or dilutants added.

Rosewater

A cheaper alternative to rose oil in skin care is rosewater. Rose water does contain minute amounts of rose essential oil and is so much cheaper. Rose water may be used as a toner. It may be also mixed with almond flour to form a facial scrub. Floral waters are also much safer than essential oils as they are milder and not as potent.
