The legendary Cleopatra is said to use Jasmine to herald her visits to
her lover.
Jasmine does have a hormonal effect on women. It is used traditionally in some cultures during labour to strengthen the uterine contractions, to speed up labour. It should be avoided during the later months of pregnancy as it can trigger labour. Jasmine is also said to increase the milk supply of a lactating mother. Some books attribute its aphrodisiac qualities to its hormonal effect.
Ylang YlangThis is a heady oriental perfume. It is very relaxing and some find it seductive. Too much of it can give a headache though,
ConclusionAll these essential oils are very costly. Large quantities of blossoms are required to produce a small amount of oil. The production of Jasmine oil, is also very labour intensive as the blossoms have to be gathered at night, when the fragrance is strongest. All this adds to the cost of producing these oils. In spite of the price, these oils are cost effective as very little oil goes a long way. The perfuming power of these oils, especially Rose and Jasmine is great. |
