Nature's Insect Repellents

Citronella

Citronella is the most famous insect repellent in aromatherapy. It is used commercially mainly in natural insect repellents. It is also a skin irritant.
To use it, diffuse it in the air. Either put a few drops of it in a burner for essential oil or use it in a diffuser for essential oils.

Eucalyptus

Another insect repellent. The smell is medicinal and rather strong. It can be purchased from most pharmacies and health shops.
To use, diffuse it in the air. You can also put 1 drop of it in 1 teaspoon of carrier oil to apply on your skin as an insect repellent.
Caution: It contains ketones and can be toxic if used for too long a period. Never use this oil for more than 5 days in a row and NEVER take it internally. It is a poison. Very small amounts of it taken internally can be fatal.

Geranium

A sweet smelling and flowery insect repellent. There are many types of geranium essential oil. Each type has a slightly different fragrance. Pick one that you like.
To use, diffuse it in the air. You can also put 2 drops of it in 1 teaspoon of carrier oil to apply on your skin as an insect repellent.

Lavender

This is a mild insect repellent that can also be used to treat insect bites. To use, mix 3  drops of it in 1 teaspoon of carrier oil. Apply on your skin as an insect repellent. Apply undiluted on insect bites to relieve the itch.
