Acne Hormones and HerbsAcne, Hormones and Herbs
Hormonal imbalance causes acne. How many preteen kids do you know of have
acne? Babies have perfect skin, at least they don't have pimples. When hormones
rage during puberty and throughout the teenage years, that's when acne is known
to begin. Then there is the acne that comes right on schedule, in tune with a
woman's monthly cycle.
Acne happens when pores are clogged an bacteria multiplies in the pore,
leading to the infection we know as acne. As the bacteria spreads, new pimples
appear. Skin tends to produce more oil under the influence of androgens. Some
people have skin more sensitive to androgen than others. Androgen over stimulates
the skin causing the skin to produce more oil than it should, clogging the pores
causing acne.
A woman suffering from this problem would have persistent acne that doesn't
respond to medication and might also display other problems like excess hair,
scalp hair thinning and difficulty losing weight.
I suspected my acne was due to hormonal imbalance as I've struggled with it
for years and have a problem with obesity and hair problems. I've tried all
sorts of skin care to control my acne but none seemed to work until I started
using clinique again. At the same time, I've been taking pueraria
mirifica, a herb containing the most potent phytoestrogen known.
I've read papers about this herb. It is known mostly for its breast enlarging
properties and its uses for treating menopause. Women who tested this herb have
reported skin clearance after 3 months usage, on top of healthier hair, nails,
skin as well as firmer or bigger breasts.
I was intrigued by that report about skin clearance but could not find out
any details exactly what that meant. Since nothing worked, I gave it a shot.
Up to now, my acne has been uncontrollable. It is to be taken in
cycles. 15 days take the pills, 15 days don't take the pills. On the first
pill-free day, my period will arrive like clockwork. Before I started on
Pueraria mirifica, my period was erratic but taking it regulated my cycle
perfectly. Normally, a week before my period, pimples will pop up uncontrollably
all over my face. This time, after I'd just finished my 3rd month of
pills, no new pimples appeared. The first time since.. I can't remember
when. At first, I thought it was the clinique skin care, but a few days after
I'd stop taking pueraria mirifica, a pimple appeared (still a far cry from
having half my face covered with zits). Ten days later, a second pimple
appeared. These appeared only during the pill free days.
I can't wait to take pueraria mirifica for the fourth month after the 15
pill-free days. This appears to be the solution to uncontrollable acne due to
hormones.
By the way, there are many different pills that have pueraria mirifica and
not all pills are equal. The purity of the herb and the dosage and the species
used plays an important role in its effectiveness. The one I tried was the
